Dickerson Mortuary announces the passing of Joyce L. Spruill, 76, who transitioned Friday September 18, 2026. The family of Ms. Joyce L Spruill invite you to attend her celebration of life services on Saturday, September 26, 2026, 11:00AM at Calvary Baptist Church 620 Rutledge Ave. Charleston, SC. Entombment: Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Joyce Theratha Leach Spruill was born on February 24, 1950, in Charleston, South Carolina, to the late Earthalee Deas Phillips and Oscar C. Leach, Jr.
Joyce was educated in the public schools of Charleston County and was a proud graduate of Burke High School, Class of 1968. Following high school, she continued her education at South Carolina State College, now known as South Carolina State University.
At an early age, Joyce accepted Christ as her personal Savior and was baptized at Calvary Baptist Church in Charleston, South Carolina, where she remained a faithful and devoted member throughout her life. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, and she exemplified love, compassion, strength, and devotion to God and to those around her.
Joyce dedicated many years of her professional life to the Medical University of South Carolina, from which she retired. She took pride in her work and in the many people she encountered throughout her years of service.
Above all, Joyce cherished her family. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. Her family was a source of great joy and pride, and she leaves behind a beautiful legacy that will continue through the generations. Joyce leaves to cherish her precious memory of her four children: Cornelius Bernard Leach, Stacy Maurice Spruill, Krista Brianna Richardson, and Gary Terrell Spruill (Amber Spruill); seven grandchildren; her beloved sisters and brothers; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, special cousin-Sarah Lewis, and dear friends.
Joyce will be remembered for her loving spirit, caring heart, strength, faith, and devotion to her family. She touched the lives of many through her kindness, presence, and unwavering love. Though she is no longer with us in body, the memories she created, the lessons she taught, and the love she shared will remain forever in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
Her life was a blessing, her memory a treasure, and her legacy of love will live on through her family and all those whose lives she touched.
She is resting peacefully in the loving arms of her Lord and Savior.
