Kristy Ann Whitaker, age 62, of Summerville, South Carolina, passed away on January 9, 2026. She was born on April 29, 1963, in Newark, New Jersey, and lived a life defined by strength, perseverance, and deep love for her family.

Kristy mostly known as Kris to many was preceded in death by her late parents, Joyce Crockett Whitaker and Lucious Whitaker, whom she loved dearly and now reunites with in peace.

A proud CDL truck driver known for her independence and strong work ethic. She faced long days and long roads with determination, always focused on providing for her family. Kristy was the first black female armored truck guard with Brinks at JFK airport. Her career reflected who she was—resilient, capable, and unafraid of hard work.

When she wasn’t on the road, Kristy’s heart was at home, especially in the kitchen. Cooking and baking were her passions, sharing recipes with her daughter and feeding those she loved was one of the purest ways she showed care. Her meals brought comfort, her desserts brought joy, and her kitchen was a place where memories were made and love was felt.

Family meant everything to Kristy. She was an outstanding and devoted mother to Quadir Whitaker, Rashawn Wilson, and Artisha Noel, and a proud grandmother to Marquel Vanderhorst, Michael Anthony Whitaker, Joy Whitaker, Devante Jones Jr., and Dream Wilson. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy, and she loved them fiercely. She is also survived by her brother, Clarence Williams, along with a host of loving uncles, aunts, and cousins whose lives were touched by her presence.

Kristy will be remembered for her strength, her protective spirit, her warm heart, beautiful smile and her unwavering love. Though she is no longer with us, her legacy lives on through her children, grandchildren, the family she cherished, the meals she prepared with love, and the countless memories she leaves behind.

Private services will be held.

Family and friends are invited to share memories, messages, and photos to honor Kristy’s life and keep her spirit alive.
