Miss Sarah Mae Green entered into eternal rest on Sunday, November 14, 2021. She was born on January 5, 1942 in Pinopolis, SC to the parents of the late Willis and Maggie Green. Four children were born, two siblings preceded her in death (Will Mae Green and Audrey Davis). She attended Burke High School and graduated in the class of 1961. She joined church at an early age. She was active in the Ashley Baptist Association and was a member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church in Charleston, SC. She served on various ministries in her church. She was a civil rights activist alongside the late Rev. Fred Dawson. She was the President Emeritus of the Gadsden Green Residence Association. Because of her dedicated service, the City of Charleston named the Community Center in her name. She was the Commissioner-At-Large on the board of the Charleston Housing Authority. She is survived by her daughters, Vonda Chaplin (Lennen), and Darla Godfrey (John), grandchildren, Antoine Aljernone Green, Candace Chaplin, Robert, Jr. (Marie), Andrew Chaplin (Christy), John Godfrey, II, William Godfrey, III and Tristen Godfrey; her great-grand children, Jayla Green, Kingston Godfrey, Brittany Schoenith (Max), Harley Sweay and Timothy Smith, Christopher Smith and Charles Smith; her beloved sister, Mary (Douglas) Robinson.
